When I choose my topic, I knew from research that Seoul used a lot of green spaces. Today I really began to experience Seoul first hand, and I have been shocked with how much vegetation is in the city. One of the places we visited today is University of Seoul. The campus is located within the metropolitan area, and incorporates LOTS of vegetation. The building we visited had a rooftop garden (Pictured 1). Every area between campus buildings was a mini garden with major walkways. Many buildings have kudzu covering the walls. (Pictured 2) I believe one reason planners are willing to use so many plants is to reduce the amount of pollution in the air- which has been very noticeable today. The area is used by many college students to spend their free time and be in-between classes. A major part serves this purpose as a park. (Pictured 3 Although not every area in the city uses a lot of vegetation. There are some areas with tight streets and ground level businesses that don’t have much vegetation, but overall there was lots of it, especially seen as we were walking to businesses in the area near the hotel.
